A letter to my subscribers…

Posted on

Today there are 50 people subscribed to this blog….(!)  I am genuinely astonished at this– I started this blog just to share my favorite recipes and experiments with friends and family.  My 50th subscriber is from Mobile, Alabama (so says my email…) I’ve never met anyone from Alabama before- so “hi!” it’s nice to meet you!!!

I decided a few weeks ago that if I ever got to 50 subscribers that I’d dedicate a post to finding out more about you- where do you live?  How did you end up finding this blog?  Do you have a blog? (I want to visit your blog!!!)  What do you like to bake?  Have you tried any of these recipes?  Did they work for you?  Have you tried anything different with them?  Please leave me a message and tell me more about you and the things you love!

I know I don’t offer much info on myself here (I’m still a little uneasy with the big world of the internet!)  but here’s some fun facts:

  • I have an adorable dog named Casper who works hard cleaning up everything I drop in the kitchen while baking.
  • I’m an over-the-top Green Bay Packer fan (!!!)
  • One of my 1st baking experiences as a child was a mint cream candy recipe that called for egg whites- I used the whole egg and waited 3 days for them to firm up on wax paper…my mom finally made me throw them out (and she showed me how to divide an egg!)
  • My cousin recently moved in with me because he’s doing a college internship in my hometown –I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m nuts because  his first morning here I’m in the back yard with cupcakes and a camera before work trying to catch that perfect morning light…ahh…the addiction of food blogging….

Thanks so much for subscribing– I’m so excited to hear from you!    r-

  2. I don’t know if your Mobilian was my wife or me… but Steph found your blog on pintrest and sent me a link for your Salted Caramel Cookie Cups. We’re making them for a party tonight! We’ll let you know how they turn out. FYI Mobile is a small city on the Gulf Coast, we’re a strange mix b/c our heritage includes French, Spanish and English history. We have live oak lined streets and some of the best seafood you’ve ever had.

  4. I am also one of the 50. I just love to see and read about food. I enjoy trying new recipes and found your blog while looking for a pretzel, chocolate recipe. I found your salted carmel cookie cups. I just love sweets– my downfall. I ended up making a hybrid pretzel chocolate bar- out of many recipes together. I am on a major diet now, so enjoying weight watcher recipes and LOOKING at your delicious photos! Thanks for blogging!

    • A pretzel chocolate bar sounds good- do you have a blog? I have been on a diet for almost the entire time I’ve done this blog– taste it and give it away is my policy 🙂 Thanks for introducing yourself!!!!

      • I do not have a food blog I admire those that do. I just copy, and my food photos are not fit for publication:). I have to keep practicing… Maybe one day…. I got the Caramel Chocolate pretzel bars recipe from mommiecooks

        http://www.mommiecooks.com/2010/11/12/family-friendly-fridays-chocolate-pretzels/.
I used half regular kisses for the topping, because I am a chocolate kiss purist:

        Caramel Chocolate Pretzel Bars
        Ingredients:
        For the Crust:

        11/2 Cup of Mulched Pretzels
        1 Stick of Butter, Melted
        1/4 Cup of Sugar

        For the Bars:

1 Pkg of Either Caramel Apple or Caramel Kisses
        1 Stick of Butter
        1 Cup of Brown Sugar
        1 tsp of Vanilla
        1/4 Cup of Evaporated Milk
        1 Egg
        3/4 Cup of Flour
        1 tsp of Baking Soda
        1 tsp of Milk
        Directions:

Start out by making up your crust. Throw a few handful of pretzels into your food processor and mulch them up until you have 11/2 cups worth.

Dump them into a 9×9 inch baking pan and add in 1 stick’s worth of melted butter along with 1/4 cup of sugar. Combine it well and press your crust into the pan.

Throw it in the oven and cook it at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes. Pull it back out and let it cool.

While your crust is cooling, grab up your bar ingredients. Melt up your second stick of butter (I knew there was a reason these bars were so dang good) on low heat. Once it’s melted, remove it from the heat and add in your brown sugar, vanilla, and evaporated milk.

Next up, you’ll mix in your egg.

Finish it off by adding in your flour and baking soda.

Grab your cooled pretzel crust and lay your kisses down in rows on top of your crust.

Next up, you’ll grab your batter you just cooked up and pour it over the top of the kisses.

Pop the bars back into your oven at 350 degrees and cook them for another 25 minutes.

Once they’re out and cooling, the final touch will be to take any leftover caramel kisses, throw them into your double boiler along with your tsp of milk and melt them down.

Spread the melted kisses over the top of your bars and put the finished dish in the fridge to set for three or more hours until completely cooled.
