So my cousin Erika messaged me this week asking for ideas for a gender-reveal party she’s throwing this spring. For those of you uninformed folks (as I was a week ago)– a gender reveal party is where you break the “It’s a boy/girl” news to all your friends and family at a fun party. I say– what better way to deliver good news than in a dessert??!!?? So I went to work and I have several ideas you will likely see here in the coming weeks.
Idea#1— a recycled recipe tweaked for the occasion. Remember my chocolate bonbons? Fun little fudge cookies with a hershey kiss inside. Instead of a kiss, how about colored white chocolate? Here you go:
INGREDIENTS:
- 40-50 Wilton candy melt pieces in BLUE or PINK
- 8 oz. Philadelphia Cream Cheese
- 1 bag (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 t. vanilla
- Additional Wilton White Candy Melts
for decorating as desired.
DIRECTIONS:
- Soften Philadelphia cream cheese in microwave until completely smooth.
- Melt chocolate chips in microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well in between.
- Add cream cheese to melted chocolate and blend well.
- Add flour and vanilla and stir into a thick dough consistency.
- Flatten about 1 tbs. of dough in your palm, place 2 candy melts (flat sides together) in the center and gently wrap the dough around the melts until they are completely covered.
- Flatten dough and shape into an Oreo shaped and sized cookie and place on an un-greased cookie sheet.
- Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
- Remove warm cookies from cookie sheet and place on parchment paper (they will be a little greasy on the bottom, the parchment paper helps with this)
- Decorate as desired- I dipped the entire top of the cookie in melted white candy melts and then piped two small circles on the top. Dragging the tip of a toothpick through the circles while they are still melted makes them into hearts (aww….) Easy and fun!
Not expecting a baby? Make these with pink or red melts inside and pink and red hearts on top for a fun and festive Valentines Day treat!
ENJOY!!
That’s really creative!
Ohme Ohmy! These look delish!! And oh so fun!!! =) What a great idea for gender revealing!!
These are so cute!
Thank you 🙂
these look wonderful for valentines day(:
but does anyone know around how many cookies can this mixture make?
Thanks– it really depends on how much dough you wrap around the melts. If you aim for an oreo-sized cookie this recipe makes 24-28 cookies.
This is a really creative idea, Thanks!
Very Cool. I will use this some day.
I awarded you with the Liebster Award – http://sweettwistoffate.blogspot.com/2012/02/gluten-free-pear-bread.html
Thanks so much Meg. I will pass it along!! 🙂
Found you through Meg’s blog, I’m loving your recipes! These are so cute – I’ve never heard of gender reveal parties (probably because I never want to know what I’m having til the ACTUAL reveal), but I love this idea 🙂
Welcome 🙂 I had never heard of them either until my cousin called…sounds fun though!
I love this so much, I just made some for my reveal party tomorrow. They are in the oven as I type this comment. =) I did make one alteration, but that’s because my family really loves their chocolate very sweet. I put in 1/4c. sugar and creamed it with the chocolate-cream cheese mixture. Very tasty! I can’t wait til I see the look on their faces when they eat them too.
Nothing makes me happier than hearing stories about how people have used and enjoyed recipes!! My cousin just made these too- she is having a *girl* 🙂 She is a teacher and brought them in to her kids– they loved the idea that the cookies held a secret. Have a wonderful time at your party Melissa– and congratulations!!!

Please help! 🙂
I made these cookies last night (I’m not a good baker) and they were a disaster. Not sure wher I went wrong. The dough was very “crumbly” and I had a hard time getting it to stick together to make into a ball. Once they were out of the oven they tasted like there was too much flour but I did use 2cups exactly. Any suggestions on where I may have gone wrong?
Thanks!
Oh goodness Jennifer– I’m so sorry they didn’t turn out. It sounds like maybe you had too much flour– but I’m really not sure- if you decide to try it again I’d just add the flour until you have a nice moldable dough consistency. And I bet you are a better baker than you give yourself credit for– half the battle is just being willing to try. I still completely fail at recipes (I just tried a Betty Crocker cake roll that was TERRIBLE!– and thats a tried and true Betty Crocker recipe!). Good luck!!!! 🙂
I’m making these to send to my in laws for our first baby’s gender reveal. It’s their first grandchild and we want to make it special for them. We live in Arizona and they live in Indiana so I hope they survive the trip intact! 🙂
So fun! 🙂 They are pretty sturdy little cookies– I bet they will ship great! Congratulations!!!
I’d like to make these cookies to surprise my parents after our big ultrasound next week…But my mom is currently on a gluten-free diet. Any idea on how to make these gluten-free? Maybe a different kind of flour?? Any tips you have would be appreciated!
hmmm…..I don’t have any tips– I’m not familiar with too many gluten free products. Maybe another reader will have some ideas??? By the way– congratulations!!! 🙂
I’m a gluten-free mom-to-be, and I know from years of experience that cooking gluten-free the correct way will produce any food the way you want it to. I suggest using a rice flour (do NOT use tapioca flour for this). Tom Sawyer’s, Domata, and Bob’s Red Mill flour mixes should work just fine. I’m thinking about making these for my special reveal soon and I’m 3rd gen of Celiac, so gluten-free baking comes in the family.
Thank you SO much for the gluten free tips– I’m sure many readers will appreciate them!!!
Thank you so much for this post. I am going to reveal my baby’s gender at my son’s first birthday party so I was looking for something quick and simple that wouldn’t spoil my guests’ appetites for birthday cake. This will be perfect.
You are so welcome– and congratulations!!!!!
Super fun idea! Quick question – What is the texture like when it is finished? I am actually going to be mailing the cookies to family and so I’m wondering how they will hold up in transit?
Thanks for the fun idea!
These will ship beautifully. They are nice firm cookies. I’d send them in a firm-sided container, not just baggies, but you should be able to mail them with no problems!!
Perfect! Thanks so much!
You’re welcome- have fun!!!!
making these for my daughters gender reveal for her friends, she loved the idea, so we will do these in 2 weeks, so excited cant wait to make them!!
I’m so excited for you- have so much fun!!!! 🙂
I’m using this for a mini reveal for my co-workers on Opening Day! Using blue/orange piping to make the hearts since we work for a baseball team 🙂 Can’t wait to make them!!!
Fun idea! I’m excited for you to try them as well!! Have fun!
How do I share a pic of my results with you?? I made them last night and did my mini reveal today 🙂
You can email me a picture at contact.easybaked@gmail.com One of these days I’m going to do a post featuring all of the amazing creations you all make!!!!! 🙂
