Friendly Monster Oreo Pops

These friendly purple monsters are filled with an Oreo, and are sure to make the kids in your life smile this Halloween!

Usually, I dip my Oreo pops, but this time I used some Oreo Pop molds (got mine here), and I love how they turned out! If you don’t want to purchase molds, these would be just fine dipped as well (instructions here). You could also save some time on these by purchasing the large eyes, but I wanted to save a little on the cost (and I already had both white and black candy melts).

Want to know how to make these fun little monsters??? Here we go! (Printable recipe here)

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

  • Slide a lollipop stick into each Oreo, making sure it doesn’t come out of the top.
  • Melt purple candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Spoon about 1 tablespoon of melts into each mold cavity
  • Press an Oreo into each cavity, allowing melts to rise up along sides.
  • Spoon a little more of the candy melts on top, and tap on counter to get bubbles out and fill in along the sides. Note: if you have these clear molds, you can lift them up and check for any areas that might have bubbles or where the melts aren’t covering the Oreo, and use a toothpick to poke those out and allow the candy melts to fill in.
  • Allow candy melts to harden. I put these on a small cookie sheet and freeze them for about 5 minutes to speed up the process.
  • Turn the mold over and tap to release the covered Oreo.
  • For the eyes (if you do not purchase them), put some melted white candy melts into a zip-top bag and clip a corner.
  • Put some melted black candy melts into a bag as well, and clip a smaller corner.
  • On parchment or wax paper, squeeze the white candy melts out into a 3/4″ to 1″ circle.
  • Use the black candy melts to squeeze a pupil in the center of the white to create a big eyeball.
  • Allow your eyes to harden up.
  • Mix a little white into any leftover purple candy melts you have, to make lavender. Put this lighter purple into a zip-top bag and clip a corner.
  • Squeeze some lavender melts onto the top-middle of the Oreo pop and press an eye on top until the lighter purple squeezes out around the edges.
  • Pipe a little half-smile under the eye.
  • Allow everything to harden up.
  • Tie these up in cute little bags (I LOVE these ones because they fit a covered Oreo perfectly and leave room to tie a ribbon under it!) to make them last longer (they will last 4-6 weeks in tied bags) and ENJOY!!

My thoughts: These turned out exactly as I pictured them in my mind, and I love that they aren’t scary 🙂 Be creative with yours- maybe you need three eyes or a different color? However you decide to make them, I hope you enjoy the process and the results! ~r

Gum Ball Machine Oreo Pops

Posted on

These fun little gum ball machines aren’t filled with gum balls, but with a yummy Oreo! Easy to make, these little treats are sure to bring smiles!

It’s no secret that we love to try new versions of Oreo Pops around here. In fact, the very first time I tried making cake pops (an utter, embarrassing failure), I had the thought… maybe I could put a cookie- like an Oreo- on a stick and dip it in chocolate instead! I searched the internet for an example of this and couldn’t find anyone else who’d tried it. Does this mean I invented the Oreo Pop? Maybe. Or I did a bad job on Google searching them! 🙂 In any case, from that day in 2012 on, we have turned all sorts of things into Oreo Pops! The sprinkles were the inspiration for these. Every time I used them, they reminded me of little gum balls! The basics of how to create an Oreo Pop live on in my original recipe. The only thing I have changed is a little freezer time to harden the stick in place before dipping.

Let’s make these! (printable recipe is found here)

INGREDIENTS:

  • One package of Double Stuf Oreos
  • 2 (12oz.) bags of Wilton White Candy Melts
  • 24 Lollipop sticks  (I like the 6-8 inch ones)
  • Small, round sprinkles (for the gum balls)
  • Silver dragees (for top knob)
  • White heart sprinkles (Or you could use squares too- for the coin slot)
  • Dots Candy (for the stand)

DIRECTIONS: (to see pictures, refer to my original “how-to” post here)

  • Carefully twist apart all of the Oreo cookies.
  • Using one of the pop sticks, make an indentation in the white filling of each cookie.
  • On the rest of the sticks, slide one red Dots candy about an inch down the stick. Yes, it is sticky, and leaves a trail of red on the stick, but this part will go inside the Oreo.
  • Melt the Candy Melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring until completely melted and smooth.
  • Dip the end of one stick into the melted white chocolate, drizzle a little in the center of the white cookie filling and then gently press it into the indentation made, making sure that the Dots Candy is right up against the bottom of the cookie.
  • Place the top of the cookie back on and allow white chocolate to harden (5 minutes or so), cementing the cookie back together with a stick inside. (I like to place all the cookies on a small baking sheet and set them in the freezer for a few minutes to really firm them up before dipping)
  • Holding the stick, lower the entire Oreo into the bowl of melted white chocolate, spooning it over the top and sides to cover it completely, but being careful to not get too much on the Dots Candy.
  • Allow the excess chocolate to drain off, and slide the bottom of the cookie against the lip of the bowl to remove excess. Then, gently place the covered Oreo on a piece of parchment paper to harden.
  • Immediately (before the candy melts harden!), sprinkle the gum ball sprinkles on the bottom half of the Oreo pop, and set a dragee on the top.
  • Allow the pops to harden completely.
  • Use a little bit of the melted white candy melts to “glue” the heart sprinkle on the front of the Dots candy. Allow this to harden as well.
  • Eat and enjoy!!!

My thoughts: I love these little cuties! They make me smile. How fun would a mason jar of these be at a Birthday party?!? You can easily put a cello bag over each pop and tie them with a ribbon to share! I really hope you try these and enjoy them! ~r

Maracas Oreo Pops!

Posted on

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with these adorable maracas made with Oreos and candy sunflower seeds!

I love Mexico! I’ve been there on vacation, and I’ve been there many times to work alongside the people of a little town called Siete Ejidos in Sinaloa. I love the food, the beautiful people, the music, and the bright, fun colors that are everywhere! Seriously- why is it unacceptable to paint a house bright blue and orange in the States? (or at least in my neighborhood…)

These were such fun cookies to make because you can just go crazy with color and make any design you want! Use sprinkles or candy…I used chocolate covered sunflower seeds on mine, and I love how they turned out! They have that “bead” look you often see on maracas and other art in Mexico.

Here’s how we made these (printable recipe here)

(If you have never made Oreo Pops before, check out our tutorial here.)

INGREDIENTS: (makes 24-30 Oreo pops)

  • One box of Double Stuff Oreos
  • 1/4 cup of Wilton’s Candy Melts in white.
  • Wilton’s Candy Melts in a variety of colors (you’ll need at least 3 bags of them)
  • One box of Dots Candy

DIRECTIONS:

  • Gently twist apart all Oreos.
  • Melt white candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between until melted and smooth.
  • Press a lollipop stick through a Dots candy until about 1 inch of the stick is out of the other side (see photo below).
  • Dip end of a lollipop stick into the white chocolate, spread a little on the top of the white Oreo filling and then press the stick flat into the center of the filling.
  • Place top of Oreo on, and set on a cookie sheet. When all Oreos have sticks inserted, pop these in the freezer for 15-20 minutes (until they are nice and firmly set).

  • Melt one color of Candy Melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between until melted and smooth.
  • Gently spoon color over bottom 1/4 of Oreo (see photos below).  I gently turned the stick so I could spoon color on the back too- then tap stick against side of bowl to drain excess. Set on parchment paper and allow this to harden up.
  • Melt second color of Candy Melts as above. Spoon color over the rest of the Oreo, tap stick against bowl to drain away excess, place on parchment paper, and gently place sunflower seeds in flower pattern in the center (or add sprinkles…or drizzle chocolate…). Allow this to harden.
  • Melt third color of Candy Melts and spoon over top 1/4. Tap stick against bowl to drain excess and set on parchment paper to harden.
  • Allow candy melts to harden completely, and then pipe line/dots on in any color (I used black).
  • ENJOY!

My thoughts: These are a delicious little way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Once they are hardened up, you can tie them into little individual cello bags and they will keep for weeks. I love make-ahead treats!

Hairy Monster Oreo Pops

These fuzzy Oreo monsters aren’t TOO scary- and they taste delicious!

Oh Oreo Pops… I love you! So many possibilities and so little time! Aren’t these so cute? They remind me of the little pom-poms with eyes that we used to put on the tops of pencils. Yes..pencils…back in the olden days when we used paper 😉

In any case- these are perfect for Halloween and even for just fun fuzzies at kids parties! The only requirement??? You need to like coconut!  I know that eliminates a few of you out there…but believe me- if you like coconut, you will LOVE these! Coconut plus Oreos?? Bam!

monster-oreo-pops

Here’s how we made these fun little guys: (printable recipe available here)

INGREDIENTS: (for about 24 cookies)

  • One package of Double Stuff Oreos
  • Wilton’s Candy Melts– you need about a bag and 1/2- so if you do all three colors you need 1/2 bag of each.
  • Candy eyes
  • About 3 cups of shredded, sweetened coconut
  • Food coloring in desired shades
  • About 24 lollipop sticks

DIRECTIONS: (if you’ve never made Oreo Pops, check out our tutorial here)

  • Place coconut in small zip-top bags and add food coloring in desired shades. Zip bag shut and shake and squeeze until coconut is completely colored. Set aside.
  • Twist apart all of your Oreos.
  • Melt your candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melts, spread a little on the top of the white filling of the Oreo and then press the stick into the white filling.
  • Place the top of the Oreo back on so that the stick is in the middle with the filling.
  • Do this for all the Oreos, and set them on a large plate or cookie sheet to FREEZE for about 10 minutes.
  • Hold a chilled pop by the stick, and spoon candy melts (in desired color) over the top, bottom and sides of the Oreo.
  • Tap stick against the side of the bowl to get extra melts off, and gently pull the bottom of the Oreo along the edge of the bowl, scraping off excess melts.

hairy-monster-oreo-popshair-monster-oreo-pops

  • Set Oreo on parchment paper to harden- but before it hardens, sprinkle a generous amount of coconut on the top of the candy melts, and gently press it up against the sides.
  • When all Oreos of a given color are dipped and covered, take the remaining candy melts and use a dab on the back of each candy eye-ball to “glue” these on top of the coconut. I used a toothpick to add this dab of candy melt to the eyeball.
  • Continue until you have all colors finished. Allow Oreo pops to completely harden (a couple of hours). You can freeze them to speed up this process.
  • The BEST way to serve these is to wrap them in cello bags and tie them with a ribbon. This keeps all that coconut in place (and not all over the other colors of coconut!)

My thoughts: These are quick, but a little messy to put together, They are adorable and delicious though– so well worth the effort in my opinion!!! I liked them even better after a couple of days- when the coconut gets a little firmer in texture from sitting out and it’s less oily. These will keep for at least a week (maybe longer?) when wrapped up in cello bags. I do hope you get a chance to try them!  Enjoy!!  ~r

Emoji Oreo Pops!

Emoji Oreo Pops2

Surprise everyone with these adorable Emoji Oreo Pops! They look difficult- but I found some cookie cutters that make fast work of these cute little faces!

I’m not sure when the Emoji craze hit, but all of a sudden, these cute little social media expressions are EVERYWHERE! Pillows, T-shirts, masks, cards, balloons… People are even throwing Emoji parties (which actually sounds really fun…!)

Emoji Oreo Pops

In any case, when I decided to re-create these little guys I was unaware of how popular they are! I always google my ideas to see if I’m original or re-creating something, and there were a few Emoji Oreos and cookies out there- but they were mostly hand-drawn faces, and let’s face it: I am NO artist! I wondered if there were cookie cutters in the shapes of the faces- so I could use fondant. Most of the cutters were for full-sized cookies, not Oreos. But then I found these from JB Cookie Cutters. They are available in a 2 inch size which was perfect!

Emoji Oreo Pops

Look at all the faces you can make with this set of cookie cutters! Very, very fun!!!! 🙂

Let me show you how we put these little cookies together (printable recipe here)

INGREDIENTS: (makes about 25 cookies)

  • One box of Double Stuff Oreos
  • One and a half bags of Wilton’s Candy Melts in yellow
  • One box of Wilton’s white fondant or make your own- recipe here
  • A little powdered sugar to roll the fondant out with
  • Gel food coloring in black, red and blue
  • You’ll also need some lollipop sticks, (and a set of tweezers, some toothpicks and a small paintbrush are helpful!)

DIRECTIONS: (if you have never made Oreo Pops before, click here for tips!)

  • Make all the components for your Emoji faces first! They will be ready to place on the melted candy when the time comes!
  • If you have never worked with fondant before, you might find our tutorial here helpful.
  • Pull a small ball of fondant off the block of Wilton’s white fondant and roll it into a ball.
  • Using a small rolling pin and a little powdered sugar, roll the fondant out like cookie dough and cut all the white pieces of the faces you want to make. The big eyes and teeth are easy- but the little teeth need a toothpick’s help to poke them out of the cutter when it picks them up off the table. You will also want to “paint” the black lines on the big teeth with black gel food coloring. You can use a toothpick or a small brush to do this.

Emoji Cookies Emoji Oreo Pops

  • You want to work with fondant starting with the lightest colors 1st and ending with the darkest, so next up is blue tears- then red tongues and hearts- and finally all the black pieces.
  • To color fondant, add gel to the center of the ball and knead it with your hands. You will get colored hands (unless you wear gloves).
  • Once you are finished with a color, you can keep it soft by protecting it from air (under a small dish or glass).
  • One note: When you get to the black pieces, the little eyebrows are SO tiny that I skipped cutting them out and just used a toothpick to draw them on the faces at the end (I can draw eyebrows…) 🙂
  • To stick two pieces together (like pupils on the eyes, and tongues on the mouths), brush a little water on the back of the piece you want to “glue on” and place it where you want it.
  • Once your pieces are finished, just let them sit and harden up a bit while you make your Oreo Pops!

Emoji Oreo Pops

  • See the powdered sugar on the black pieces? Use a little paintbrush to brush that off once your Oreo pops are completed.
  • Twist apart all of your Oreos.
  • Melt your yellow candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Hold a chilled pop by the stick, and spoon yellow candy melts over the top, bottom and sides of the Oreo.
  • Tap stick against the side of the bowl to get extra melts off, and gently pull the bottom of the Oreo along the edge of the bowl, scraping off excess melts.
  • Set Oreo on parchment paper to harden- but before it hardens, place your fondant face on top. I used my fingers, but tweezers and a toothpick would be helpful in placing and positioning each piece. I honestly felt like I was playing the game “Operation”. You need steady hands!
  • Allow Oreo to harden up.
  • Brush away extra powdered sugar from face, and paint on some eyebrows for the faces that require some 🙂
  • Let these sit for a couple hours to fully harden (you can chill to speed this up) and then serve! I placed them in individual cello bags and tied them with ribbons to make giving them away easy!
  • Enjoy!

Emoji Oreo Pops

My thoughts: These are probably the most fun dessert I’ve ever given away. These were a HUGE hit with everyone and resulted in lots of Emoji selfies 🙂 Here’s a little glimpse of the fun:

Emoji Lineup!

Of course, these are time consuming. Even with the added help of the little cookie cutters, they take time. If your time is limited, I recommend you make the fondant faces and then assemble the pops later. The good thing about these is that they keep for several weeks when they are tied up in those cello bags- so you can do them WAY ahead of an event! I hope you are brave enough to tackle these- and that my other posts on Oreo Pops and the use of fondant are helpful!  Enjoy! ~r
