Spiderweb Oreo Pops

These web-wrapped Oreos with M&M spiders are not only cute fall treats- but delicious ones!

It’s that time of year again. That time when spiders think it’s too cold outside, and find little cracks around my windows and doors to creep in through. There’s nothing worse than sitting here, innocently blogging about a dessert recipe, only to be shocked by a giant black spider racing out from behind the couch. Seriously- they move so fast!

In any case, I make a lot of spider-themed treats. Maybe because candy spiders are so cute- and they don’t move. These are especially cute little guys- and they are perfect on top of these web-coated Oreos! Plus, as is true with all Oreo pops, you can make them weeks ahead and have them all wrapped in pretty bags and ready for a party. I love recipes like that.

Here is how we made them: (printable recipe available here)

INGREDIENTS: (makes about 24 pops)

  • One box of Double Stuff Oreos
  • 24 lollipop sticks
  • 2 bags of Wilton’s Candy Melts in white
  • 1/4 cup of Wilton’s candy melts in dark chocolate
  • 36-ish dark brown M&Ms (no worries–you can eat the rest of the bag while you work 🙂 )

DIRECTIONS:

  • Make your spiders 1st.
  • Melt dark chocolate melts in microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between until melted and smooth. Spoon into a small zip-top bag and clip a tiny corner off (or use a decorator tip, if you have one). 
  • Pipe spider legs on parchment paper (see photo) and place an M&M in the center. I make more than 24, because the legs sometimes break when you peel them off.

The photos below are from my recipe for Spider Eggs, and some of them are piped on Lindt truffles. You can see how I piped them on parchment paper though.

  • Let spiders harden while you assemble your Oreos.
  • Twist apart all of your Oreos.
  • Melt a small amount of candy melts (<1/4 cup) in the microwave in 3o second increments, stirring between until smooth.
  • Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melts, and press into white filling of Oreo. Place other half of cookie back on top and press together.
  • Place Oreo and stick on a cookie sheet. Repeat this process with remaining Oreos, and then freeze all Oreos until firm (10-15 minutes).
  • Melt one and a half bags of white Candy Melts using method from above.
  • Once Oreos are chilled, hold with stick and dip into Candy Melts until completely coated.
  • Tap on side of bowl to get excess off, and drag across lip of bowl to scrape excess off back of cookie.
  • Set on parchment paper to harden.
  • Melt remaining white Candy Melts and place in a zip-top bag. Clip the corner off and drizzle over each Oreo to make a messy web-like pattern.
  • Immediately place a “spider” on this melted drizzle and allow everything to harden up for at least a couple of hours. 
  • Once hardened, store in an air-tight container or tie up in little cello bags. 
  • Enjoy!!!

My thoughts: *Smile*!!! These are fun little treats- and not too difficult to make. I always love my Oreo pops. One of these days I should put all of them in one post since I’m getting such a large collection of them! I hope you get a chance to try these fun little treats! Oreo Flower Pops!

Oreo Flower Pops!These cheery little Oreo Pops are sure to brighten anyone’s day, and they are SO easy to put together!

I know…another Oreo Pop!!!  I can’t stop sharing them with you– they are just so fun!  I have another one in the works for a few weeks from now too!  I’m in love with these fun little treats!

If you’ve been a fan of Easybaked for any time at all, you have seen (and maybe tried!) lots of these little bits of happiness on a stick, but if you are new here, let me share with you a pdf that will help you make the perfect Oreo Pop:  How to make an Oreo Pop.

Flower Oreo Pop

Here (once again!) is the recipe: (printable version)

INGREDIENTS:

  • One box of Double Stuff Oreos
  • Two bags of Wilton’s candy melts in any colors you choose
  • M&Ms (I used the pastel kind- but any will work!)
  • Mini chewy Sweet Tarts (or any other small candy for the center of the flower)
  • 24 lollipop sticks

DIRECTIONS: 

  • Carefully twist apart all of the Oreo cookies
  • Using one of the lollipop sticks, make an indentation in the white filling of each cookie.
  • Melt the Candy Melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring until completely melted and smooth.
  • Dip the end of one stick into the melted Candy Melts, drizzle a little in the center of the white cookie filling and then gently press it into the indentation made.
  • Place the top of the cookie back on and allow Candy Melts to harden (10 minutes or so), cementing the cookie back together with a stick inside.
  • Holding the stick, lower the entire Oreo into the bowl of melted Candy Melts, spooning it over the top and sides to cover it completely.
  • Allow the excess  to drain off and gently place covered Oreo on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Before the Candy Melts harden, place M&Ms and Sweet Tarts on top in a flower pattern.
  • Allow Oreo Pop to harden completely
  • Cover in a treat bag and tie with a ribbon
  • Enjoy!!

Flower Pot Cupcakes!!!


These cheery garden cupcakes have delicious raspberry cream filling

and fun flowers made of M& Ms!!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!!  This bit of cheer goes out especially to my mom this week.  I’m so far from home this year, that we will have to celebrate from a distance.

Aren’t these the cutest cupcakes ever?  I cannot take credit for the M&M flower idea, it was an idea I originally saw on a cute blog called Sara’s Shoebox.  She was copying the idea from a cookbook called “What’s New Cupcake“.  I do not own this cook book, but it is a sequel to one of my favorites, “Hello, Cupcake!”, by the same author.  In any case, Sara made hers with mini Oreos and I simply could not get mine to work with those..?  SO, I had seen marshmallows in pink lemonade flavor (who can walk by THAT without picking up a bag?) and I decided to use them instead.  They were a tiny bit too small, so I am going to recommend that you use full-size marshmallows for these.  I had to fiddle around with them awhile to get them to all stick.  I’m positive they will be easier on a full-size marshmallow!!

The cupcakes are an original though- I used a pink velvet cake mix, but you can use any flavor you like!  I filled them with a yummy raspberry cream and topped them with scoops of butter cream and either coconut or Oreos (um…I had a few of those left over from the flower attempt!)  Are you ready for a recipe for these???  Here you go: (printable version)

INGREDIENTS:

  • One boxed cake mix (in any flavor, with oil, water and eggs to make according to box)
  • One packet of Dream Whip
  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup of berry jelly or jam
  • 2 sticks of salted butter (at room temp)
  • 2 sticks of unsalted butter (at room temp)
  • 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 2 cups of shredded coconut (died green with food coloring) -OR- 2 cups of crushed Oreo Cookies
  • 24 pretzel sticks
  • Pastel M&Ms
  • 12 marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup of white Wilton’s candy melts

DIRECTIONS:

Flowers: I recommend making these ahead and storing them covered until you make your cupcakes.  They aren’t hard to make, but a little time consuming.

  • Take 12 marshmallows and cut them in half with clean kitchen scissors. Lay them on the counter with the cut side up to keep them from sticking to things.
  • Take a pretzel stick and wiggle it up into the side of each marshmallow.  
  • Melt candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between until completely melted and smooth.
  • The technique that worked best for me here was to lay my M&Ms out in a flower pattern (minus the center) on parchment paper, cover the sticky side of the marshmallow with candy melts and lay it (candy melt side down) on the flower until it dries.  Then I used a little of the candy melts to stick my center on.  Here’s some photos.

Just let those cute little flowers dry, and you are all set to make your cupcakes!

Cupcakes:

  • Make cake mix according to box and divide batter among 24 cupcake liners in muffin tins.
  • Bake according to box, remove from oven and cool completely.
  • Make filling by putting Dream whip powder and whipping cream in a bowl.  Mix on high until stiff peaks form.
  • Add jam or jelly and beat until well combined.  Place filling in a large zip top bag and keep refrigerated until use.
  • Core cooled cupcakes with a small knife or a cupcake corer.  I HIGHLY recommend the corer- it is super cheap and will save you time!
  • Cut a corner off the filling bag and squeeze filling into each cupcake.  
  • Place top of “core” that was removed back on top of cupcake.

  • Make buttercream frosting by beating butters, powdered sugar and vanilla together in a large bowl on high until it is light and fluffy and smooth.
  • Use a scoop to place a mound of frosting on each cupcake.
  • Turn cupcake upside down in either coconut or crushed Oreo to coat the frosting.
  • Now pop a cute flower in, and you have an adorable treat for all sorts of occasions!!

My thoughts:  These brought smiles to so many faces!  I often share my blog creations with various families and organizations here on the Navajo Nation.  These went to the Easter party at the Senior Citizen Center here.  I got many hugs and thank yous (Ahéhee’)
 from the recipients.  I also got to watch almost 100 seniors literally running to a huge Easter egg hunt!  So fun!!!

Frog Prince Oreos

Frog Oreos!!

These adorable edible frogs are made with Oreo cookies and pretzels- cute and soooo yummy!

“You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince…..!”

Someone posted a picture of frogs made with Oreos on Facebook last week and I came across it just after spending time on the phone with a friend who’s just been “dumped” by her boyfriend.  When I saw the picture I immediately thought of all the “frogs” I’ve dated and knew I had to make us some frogs for Valentine’s Day!

I’ve only occasionally been in love on Valentine’s Day, and usually I watch horror movies with my other single friends to celebrate the day. Can you relate?  If so, these frogs are for you!!

Frog Oreos!

I am 2 1/2 hours from a Hobby Lobby.  It is (as far as I know) the only place I can get candy melts and other fun decorative things for food blogging.  When I packed up my car to move here for 8 months I remember packing the candy eyes.  I can see myself thinking, “Well, I’m sure the Navajo will not have a store that sells candy eyes…I better bring those!”

I didn’t bring them.  Or I lost them….?

So today I found myself standing in the kitchen with every ingredient I needed for these…except eyes.

I melted white and black candy melts and piped little eyes.  Don’t do that.  Go and buy the Candy Eyes.  They are super cheap and really cute.  My eyes are a little crazy looking….but then again, they remind me a little of some guys I’ve dated, so I guess it all worked out in the long run for me.

Frog Oreos!!

Ready for this recipe?  Here you go! (Printable Recipe)

INGREDIENTS:

  • One package of Oreo cookies
  • One bag of small pretzels
  • Two bags of Wilton candy melts in green
  •  Candy Eyes
  • Mini M&Ms (you’ll only need the red, so you can eat the rest!!)
  • Green jimmies (for the warts!)
  • Candy hearts (I piped mine with red candy melts, but I’d have used candy hearts if I’d had them!)

DIRECTIONS:

  • Melt the green candy melts in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring in between until completely melted and smooth.
  • Spread a sheet of parchment paper over the counter you will be working on.
  • Dip Oreos, one at a time, in the green candy melts, spooning the candy over the top and sides and then lifting with a fork and tapping excess away.  
  • Gently slide the covered Oreo against the edge of the bowl to remove excess candy melt from the bottom, and then slide off fork on to parchment paper.
  • Place two eyes on the top, an M&M in the front for a tongue, sprinkle with jimmies and place a heart candy on top.
  • Allow Oreos to completely harden.
  • Reheat candy melts if needed (they might harden up while the Oreos cool).
  • Dip pretzels into candy melts, using the same technique as the Oreos.  
  • Place two pretzels bottom to bottom on a clean sheet of parchment paper and while they are still melted, set a decorated Oreo on top and allow this to harden together.

My thoughts:  If you’ve never dipped things in chocolate or candy melts before, it will take you a little while to get the technique down.  The biggest tip I have is to tap off as much as you can before you set it on the parchment paper.  If you leave too much of the candy melts on the Oreo or pretzel it will drain off into a big puddle around it when you set it on the parchment paper.  It is also nice to have a clean set of tweezers handy to place the eyes and M&M with.  I had so much fun decorating mine…I think they got more cross-eyed and dumb looking the longer I thought about some of the guys my friends and I have dated.  I actually laughed out loud a few times.  I’m easily entertained!! 🙂

Ladybug Cake!!
It’s my Birthday today!  Yay!  Birthdays were always a huge celebration as I was growing up.  My mom had a big yellow box of recipe cards from Betty Crocker that had tons of fun ideas.  One of the categories was “Children’s Parties” and it was full of card-after-card of fun cakes.

Every year, mom would tell my brother and I that we could pick ANY cake out and she would make it for our birthday party (this, I believe, is where my great love of beautiful desserts began!)  I had all sorts of cakes- a Panda bear, an Igloo….and one year, a giant ladybug.  I loved it!

So, this year we are taking a trip down memory lane, back to the mid-70’s, for this retro recipe that made me smile then and now.

Betty Crocker 70's recipe card- Lady Bug Cake!

The Original Betty Crocker Recipe Card

INGREDIENTS: (original Betty Crocker recipe can be found here)

  • 1 box of cake mix, any flavor, plus water, oil and eggs to make according to package.
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) of salted butter
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) of unsalted butter
  • 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of clear vanilla flavoring
  • Red food coloring gel
  • York Peppermint Patties
  • Wilton candy melts in red and dark chocolate (just a few!)
  • Mini M&MS

DIRECTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350F degrees
  • Generously grease and flour a 2 quart oven-proof bowl.
  • Make cake mix according to package, and pour into prepared bowl.
  • Bake at 350F degrees for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow cake to cool for a few minutes and then run a knife around edges and tip upside down on a cake rack to cool completely.
  • Make icing by combining butters, powdered sugar and vanilla and beating on high until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Place cake on serving plate and spread a smooth layer of frosting over entire dome of cake.
  • Refrigerate about 10-15 minutes to harden 1st layer of frosting.
  • Use red food coloring gel to color about 2/3 of remaining frosting.
  • Frost over 1st layer with white over the front 1/3 of cake and red over the back 1/3.
  • Decorate with peppermint patties, icing and M&Ms.  You can use licorice for the antennae, nose and mouth, but I just piped colored candy melts into the shapes I wanted.
  • Enjoy!!

My thoughts:You really can use any items you want to decorate this cake.  You can see that Betty Crocker used gummy candies and black string licorice.  Making this cake brought back great memories of being a kid.  Many thanks to my wonderful mom for making childhood so much fun!
